Hello guys, I know that when applying one has to select up to 3 Directorate-Generals, but now when I'm filling in my form there is no such choice to be made. Could someone please tell me how to choose them? Good luck to all!

Hi, I think the best way to explain is using images.

First of all, you have to go to "Motivation - 2.B) Type of traineeship" and select the first DG you are interested in, then write motivation and click on the floppy disk icon to save your first choice.

Afterwards, just click on "Add next preferred DG (optional)" and do the same thing.

Hi, as one of the lucky ones for March traineeship (I still can't believe it! Very Happy ), maybe I can help with an example. I trust that you won't use it 1:1! Wink

General motivation:

Because XXX had a profound effect on me, I have been keenly interested in the EU affairs ever since. My study background is mainly in XXX, but I also have passed some courses in other disciplines, such as XXX. All of these disciplines were chosen by me in order to be equipped for a generalist career in XXX, either in EU context or in XXX. Currently I am just about to finish my Master of Arts degree in XXX. This degree did not fully satisfy my hunger for knowledge, thus I will start another Master's degree course in XXX at the same university this September. My special areas of interest include XXX, XXX and XXX,
therefore the choice of my preferred DG's fell quite naturally. As a permanent employee of the XXX I have already gathered few years of professional experience in these policy areas. Although I am permanently employed by the XXX, I was granted a study leave of absence; before returning to my post I want to gain some inside working experience from the European Union. A traineeship in the EC from March 2011 would suit very well into
my future plans. For an outsider I have a fairly good idea of the functioning of the EC, but during a traineeship I would of course get a much deeper perspective, especially what comes to the process of policy formulation. Furthermore I am keen to experience the working culture of 27 different nationalities, which must be different from working with only few ones. Generally in a few years time I see myself either in the service of XXX or XXX. Through both my professional experience and my studies I trust that I would be perfectly equipped for this traineeship.

Motivation for my first DG (for which I also will be working!):

Not only do I have practical work experience in the policy field of this DG from
XXX, but I have also gathered theoretical knowledge due to specialisation on
the XXX field during my Master degree studies. This led to writing my thesis on
the topic of XXX. Through both my theoretical knowledge and previous
professional experiences I would be able to contribute efficiently to the work of
the DG from the very beginning of my traineeship.

So these motivations are definitely no master pieces of literature, but maybe they help you a bit to get an idea what you could write in yours!

Good luck!!!

Thank you myrskypilvi, this is exactly what I needed! I had no idea of how to structure my motivation, and now I have! Congratulations on your traineeship, I hope I'll be as lucky as you have been Smile

Ps: Of course I won't copy it! Smile

Hello everyone and good luck!

I have also a question about all these. Is the employment area a factor that the commission can not accept us? I mean, I think that the DG we choose is the most important or am I wrong? I chose my 3 DGs but I don't really know the employment area. There are a lot I want and not just one.

Choosing second or third DG is optional, so no problem with that!

Hello everybody!

I have a question concerning the draft and the chronological order of the studies.

When checking out my draft I saw that in the upper right corner some numbers appear:
the preferred DG / and then a number.

My question is about this number. It is the same as a number next to my Bachelor study 'field of study/specialisation'. Is there a logical connection between these two, or is this a coincidence? The number for my Master is different.

Did I understand correctly that chronological order of the studies, means that first ones oldest study should be mentioned, and below we should mention our latest (most recent) study?

Wouldn't it be more logic if the number in the upper right section of the form would be my latest study?

Does anybody have any idea?

Besides, if I only have a supplement of my Master degree, would this be sufficient (I requisted them for my Bachelor degrees as well, but I haven't received them yet, but I do have the diploma's)?

Good luck!

Did you already graduate (both Master and Bacholer)?
If yes, you need a copy of your Diploma. If not, for example Bachelor studies are ongoing studies, you just need confirmation from your University that you are a student there.

Thanks Magic for your quick reply!

I have already graduated for both my Bachelor and Master.
Therefore I already have both diploma's, and I will add the copy's to my application form.
However, I understood I will have to add a 'supplement' to the diploma's as well:

"Copies of each university diploma declared in the application form with the relevant Europass Diploma SupplementĀ¹ (or if missing - the relevant University Transcripts) and their translation, where applicable."

But the university of my Bachelor did not hand me out any supplement to my diploma. Therefore, I have requested the supplement of my Bachelor, but not yet received them. For my Master I do have a supplement.

Well... that is true...you need to add supplement but you don't have it, I guess the answer is simple Smile)) You won't be able to add it Smile
Especially that it is stated that you can't send any additional documents after deadline.
But I wouldn't be too worried: Master degree is more important and you have a confiramtion from you Bachelor studies = should be fine!

[quote="len"]

"Copies of each university diploma declared in the application form with the relevant Europass Diploma SupplementĀ¹ (or if missing - the relevant University Transcripts) and their translation, where applicable."

If I understand, the sentence, it means that, if missing the supplement, then the relevant transcript is ok! So if there is a concrete sign that this is the university you graduated, for example a stamp or sthg like that, then I don't think that there is a problem.

I sent the application and the documents today! And I sent a copy of my bachelor and a paper declares that I am about to finish my master. There is no supplement. Do you think I will have a problem???

I wish you all good luck!

I think I misunderstood!

University Transcripts are something like analyzing the hours, subjects and courses attended.
As I said, I sent the application today but without that. What should I do now? I am really dissapointed with myself not understanding well this sentence.
Does anyone know?

Univeristy Supplement/ Transcript is a list with all the courses which you completed during your studies with grades. In my case it was five pages which are not valid without diploma.
On the last page, in my case, was a grade i got from my Master thesis and avarage of grades from the whole 5 years of studies...

I have two similar certificates, one with my undergraduate degree, courses I attended and grades, and another one about my master's degree course, stating the exams I have done.

In my case it is like this because I graduated in 5 years Master studies without division into 3 plus 2 (Bachelor and Master). But of course, if you studied at Bachelor and then MA studies, you have two supplements/ transcripts.
