I think Commission is closed in the period 23.12.-03.01. Anyway, congratulations, they probably did it without you knowing it, I probably got that info just because I was "chating" with a secretary...

For certain DGs security checks are necessary for non-EU citizens (and perhaps for some even for EU citizens, e.g. the WMD unit). For some DGs, non-EU citizens will also be subject to additional ICT limitations. However, this will depend on the DG; for example someone dealing with Culture policies (often not very confidential) will be treated than someone who is dealing with highly confidential energy issues, for example.

I got a phone call from a unit, the lady asked me if I wanted the traineeship. Of course I said yes and she told me she'd start the paperwork and keep in touch. No words from her or the unit, and it's been a week!
