What kind of qualifications do you have?

on Fri Dec 07, 2012 3:56 pm
Now that we have received pre-selection e-mails and are in the process of waiting to hear something/sending e-mails lobbying ourselves I have nothing better to do than wonder how qualified (I know everyone is very qualified but I don't really know what that means) we all are. Obviously this might not even be the only thing that matters with the selection (it's rather the specific skill set they might be looking for and dependent on who you happened to lobby and generally an unknown combination of things) in any case I am just curious and trying to come up with something to talk about while waiting.

I will start with myself

Language skills:
I speak 3 EU languages fluently (but only one of them is useful: English, the two others are small and not so imporatant)
I have a medium-level of German but don't think I can really communicate in it since it has been so long (I can understand text though, at least simple text)
I've studied basic French (and Arabic) meaning I can read the menu and understand random words

Bachelor degree in a humanities subject (+ social scences)
Finishing a masters degree in January 2013 (assuming I pass my thesis defence) in Social science/Development studies
During my bachelors I did an erasmus exchange (so I have studied in 3 countries).
In general my grades are fine, not all top grades, mainly around average

(Relevant) work experience:
internship at an embassy (for my own country) for 6 months
(boring) administrative work in an office for 7 months (half-time)
responsible for public relations for a small student organisation (related to political issues) for 5 months

Main DG:s I'm interested in: (I put 'external relations' on the application form)
perhaps ECHO
(I know, the ones that are supposedly the most popular...)

I'm not specifying some of the language skills/work experience as with small countries it might be easy to recognize me (not that it's a big issue I guess but I prefer to keep some privacy in public spaces).

Diploma in finance and master abroad in international economics.

One administrative internship and one part time job.

DGs of interest... well, wherever I can do finance stuff and work and with some economic data.

I speak 4 languages fluently, of which 3 are actually useful (Spanish, English, German). I speak very basic French (but can read it easily and write a little).

I am actually very specialised in a certain region (Latin America), I did a BA in Latin American Studies in my home country and an MSc in Latin American Studies at Oxford.

I had a couple of irrelevant part-time jobs, did a volunteer microfinance project for half a year, organized a study trip, and did an internship at the foreign desk of a big news agency in my country (but doesn't have anything to do with EC work...).

My DGs of interest are those with Latin America divisions, so... EEAS, DEVCO, ECHO, and Trade.

Good luck to everyone! Smile

I speak 3 languages fluently (Spanish, English, Portuguese) and basic French (reading and listening are okay, talking and writing not so good).

I have a Bachelor degree in Law (4 years), a Masters degree in Law (2 years) and I am admitted to my country's Bar Association.

I work as a lawyer for 2 years now and made two small internships before in two different courts.

I have studied abroad in Erasmus (1 year) and participated in a summer school also abroad.

My DGs of interest are those directly related to legal services (DG Justice and the Legal Services) and then some units within other DGs whose work I believe involve some legal aspects and are related to the work I have been performing as a lawyer.
