i wonder if it's possible (maybe in a week or so?) to e-mail the TO and at least ask if they can tell us if we've been selected as any unit's preferred trainee. even without telling us which unit, and knowing that it doesn't guarantee some problem won't arise. would be good to just have some idea in order to plan.

I wish it was possible. Last year I called and emailed so many times but every time same answer: wait for official email Sad

hmm I am not sure if I'd do it (again) haha. I tried that this week with the HR of the EEAS and she was not soooo friendly ;-) Also said she wasn't allowed to give me any info and bye. That phone call cost me like 5 euro or so from my mobile phone and was definitely not worth it!

Hi Angelapia!

To be honest, I did exactly the same. But instead of sending my lobby e-mails 1-2 days after I got the preselection e-mail (March 2013), I now had everything prepared and ready to be send on the day I got the e-mail (Friday). I don't think that really made any difference though, I only started receiving "thank you" e-mails at the same time as everyone else here on the forum.

Another thing I changed was that I sent lobby e-mails to many more units, not specifically all the Latin America ones (which I did for March 2013). I also sent e-mails to units that my profile matched in general. But, in the end, the two units that were interested in me were the same two units I had also written to in March 2013 (and not one of the extra ones I added).

I had no interviews and no e-mail contact with the units except for the general "thank you"s. For March 2013 I did get a phone call, from ECHO, but only about my availability.

I guess this doesn't really help you at all haha. Smile But I think sending out lobby e-mails is really important, as the lady I talked to mentioned they had only looked at those e-mails (and did not look people up in the Blue Book). Also, I think it's important to prepare everything in advance, choose your units (and don't hesitate to send a lot of e-mails, if your profile matches the unit somehow, just send it! It can't hurt) and get a little info on every one of them in case they contact you with questions.

Hi Elanor, first let me congratulate you! You must feel amazing! I just wanted to clarify, you said you changed nothing for the most part, so does that mean that you kept your application exactly the same both times? No changes to the way you answered the questions posed in the application (ie: General reasons for applying? Type of traineeship? etc.)?

I did write a slightly edited version for my application form, but I just changed a few words, etc. to make it look a bit more general than just Latin America focused (that's my specialisation), but it basically had the same content. Smile In the end, a Latin America unit selected me, so those word changes had in fact not been necessary Laughing

Hi everyone,

I received an e-mail telling me I have been selected by the unit I was looking for in DG ENV "as their reserved candidate", and that I now have to wait for an answer from the TO.
Does it mean I'm in, or is there a chance I can be finaly non-selected because of nationality quotas for instance?
Btw, they told me that the offers will be sent to the successful candidates around the 19 June... 10 days to wait...

Hi, AntoineV!!!!

First of all, congratulations with positive news!!! May I ask you to which unit you applied and when have you receieved an email? Obviously not on Sunday Smile Have you had any interview with DG ENV?

Regarding quotas, cannot say anything. But based on some posts of candidates from previous sessions, I would still be patient and wait for the official email from the TO. I guess you have more chances to get this trainee, if you are coming from the country with low amount of applicants Rolling Eyes

Good luck!

Thanks Hypoliminion,

I received this email (after I ask them for some news) from unit B2 on thursday, and I had no interview. I'm from France.
That sounds good, but let's wait for the official email...

Good luck to you all

Good to hear news from DG ENV and congrats Antoine. I see B2 is related to biodiversity so I am just curious what's your educational background? I would really appreciate if you can share that Smile) Engineer, biologist ...?

I hope to work with both you and Hypolimnion soon Smile)

That is very interesting profile, Antoine! So, you wrote them regarding the status of selection process in this unit and they just told you, such easy going guys! Like that! Very Happy
I guess DG ENV (particularly B2 unit) doesn't send to all reserved candidates emails that they were selected within the unit. But I'd rather wait for the TO respond, hopefully I get one! Razz Don't want to get excited too early. Now at that stage, assuming that all departments have made their chioce, I think everything depends on TO and country quotas.

And yes, Jimmy and Antoine, hope to see you soon in Brussels! Keeping fingers crossed!

Hey guys,

Are you sure country quotas are valid for the selection process? There were indeed country quotas during the pre-selection procedure, based on the number of applicants per country. But in a selection process, where the units are the ones that decide who they want to take as trainees, that just doesn't make any sense.
Why should the TO be able to challenge units' decisions? They had already made the pre-selection...

Ah, just hope that units' word is the final word... and the TO must just formalize it by sending a contract! Really fed up with all this uncertainty No

No guys, there are no quotas for pre-selected candidates. It only applies to the first selection process.

@AntoineV, what the guy from the unit is saying when referring to having to wait for a reply from the TO is that there is the possibility that some other unit may have already booked you, so the TO will decide where you will be assigned. But in any case you should be in, I guess.

Hi to everybody!

I have received yesterday this kind of email from the Human Resources department of DG Research and Innovations:

Dear blue book candidate,

Thank you for your email informing us that you have passed the pre-selection stage, for which we congratulate you.
I note that you wish to have a traineeship within DG Research and Innovation. However, as the selection of candidates is under way, we are not in a position at this stage to be able to guarantee a traineeship in this Directorate General.

If you pass the final selection stage, the Traineeships Office will send you a contract for a traineeship either with us or in another Directorate General. If, however, you have not received word by September for the period beginning in October 2013, you may consider that your application has not been successful.

...

Yours sincerely, ...

I wonder what that means Very Happy And till September, seriously?! What a Face

@Karapuz: maybe you are right regarding quotas, but how that happened then when someone said that they receied positive answer from units, assuring that they get a position, but then they havent got any contract from TO? Anyways, all this selection procedure is weird and non-transparent)))

haha, I just saw on Linkedin: "Unit Head at European Commission viewed your profile"... And of course you can then not find out which head of unit that was.

I just really hope I get the position the EEAS has now booked me for. Having to wait so long for the official confirmation is sooo annoying Rolling Eyes

Guys, only few more working days till 15th!! The final decisions are being made in this few last days! Wish you luck (and to me too)! Wink

@Hypoliminion I received that same email, but suppose that doesn't mean much though. I also got astonished with the September part... Question Maybe that can actually happen but just when someone waives the internship further on...
Did you actually read someone's testimony stating that he/she received a clear "you're our unit's first choice" and then didn't received a contract? Maybe we could ask those people if they asked for some clarification from the TO, and whether they got any...

I think there should exist some quotas in the final selection. I saw in the statistics from previous years that the number of succesful candidates per country are nearly the same each year...

Mexico, Central America of EEAS or Public Diplomacy, Election Observance of FPI? asked once before so if no one responds i won't ask again, promise. equally starting to go crazy needing to plan for post-graduation plans but not knowing what to do! Public Diplomacy sent an e-mail weeks ago saying they were reviewing a number of applications and would notify the successful candidate, but i don't know if they meant THEY would? or the TO? or they're still reviewing CVs? AH, it's all too much. thanks, guys Smile

I know from my (potential) future unit that the selection is closed, that they sent the names to the TO and they got approval about their bookings.

Just some more days to wait people. Good luck to all!
