This is just an example, don't know what dg you're interested in. But give it a try I would say!

Just a question: have you lobbied directly DG units you were interested in? Or send a general mail before?

Both! First I lobbyd specifically as soon as I heard I was pre identified, when I saw I was in the Blue Book I also sent an email to DG COMP in general.

I have the same question. In the last session EEAS units/divisions were not making any formal interviews over the phone; apparently they just select their own candidates based on the "facts".

Thanks for info b00tsi3, hoping that is the case!
With regard to after's q about a third round of lobby emails, what do you guys think about ringing the heads of unit you haven't heard from? Personally I feel that's going too far but i know someone working at DG NEAR on maternity leave who told me this was a good idea...

I just posted in the preselection topic about what I'd heard of the selection process and it seems there's a lot of contrasting ideas about what happens. I wish they'd be more transparent about the whole thing. I really want to know what happens if you get selected by two different units/DGs. I was contacted by one that doesn't exactly match my application, but it's my favourite out of all of them, so I hope I can specify if I don't get sent an offer for that one. I might email them (I actually forgot the name of the woman who rang so that's not very helpful) and say that they're my favourite and hope that can sway the outcome. Funnily enough I only lobbied one DG and didn't hear from them, but have heard from four others so that just shows the lobbying system is so hit and miss!

Hey,
It's my first post here and i have been waiting quite a bit to get activated: I wanted to let you know about my "success" without having made any lobbying attempts.
My profile: German and 23 years old, speaking English (C2) and French (B2) with a Masters (Distinction) in International Urban and Regional Planning from University College London.

My chosen focus in the application was: Programmes, Actions and Funds

I have been contacted already by two units within the past few days:
The first one being the Executive Agency for Small and Medium Sized Enterprises, Unit B1 - Energy.
I would be working on project development assistance and best practice communication for energy efficiency investments made by public and private authorities. Focusing on aiding the projects to secure external funding with innovative financing schemes.

I have had a telephone interview with them (they interviewed 6 in total) today and they said i will hear from the internship office in one or two months (aka 22/01) regarding the final results.

I have had a second e-mail asking whether I would be available and interested by the
Unit A5 - Erasmus+: Schools, Vocational Training, Adult Education, Platforms
by the Executive Agency for Education, Audiovisual and Culture (EACEA).
So far they haven't followed up with a phone call Sad

Fun Fact: My actual "Specialism" and topic of Master Dissertation are cross-border (rail) transport projects and sustainable city planning. So i would have never in my life lobbied the offices that now reached out to me.

I would be curious to hear to what degree you guys have also chosen the "Programmes"-Focus and whether anyone else has been contacted by any of the Executive Agencies. I googled their dresses and they seem to be outside the actual European quarter.

Hi,

Does anyone have any news from DG HOME? I had an interview with Unit C3, but I am unclear whether they will get back to me, or if I wont hear anything until January!

Hi guys,

I was contacted by phone by DEVCO, as well as the EEAS. Both divisions/directorates were interested, and the EEAS said I was one of their choices. I had to lobby the EEAS quite hard, as it was tricky to get in touch with the right people.

My friend also had an EEAS phone interview during the spring session, so they do conduct phone interviews. A word of warning though: it appears as if DG's can take precedence over the EEAS in selecting their candidates, which can create problems for those who really want an EEAS position.

I've been contacted by one of the people who first emailed me to say that I've been selected by another DG because I'm now listed as 'unavailable' to other DGs, so that's nice to know, but I'm a bit worried now. I was contacted a couple of weeks ago by the EACEA and at the time said I was interested because I hadn't heard anything else, but yesterday was called by the Interpreting DG which would be my first choice. What if I've been picked by the one I don't want? I hope I don't sound ungrateful, I know they're great opportunities, I'm just wondering if there's anything I can do to ensure I get an offer I like the most. I had heard that it was first come first served but I also thought they'd consider all offers from every DG so it seems the former is true.

I'm glad people are still getting calls and stuff. But I just can't help but becoming rather desperate now. I mean... if they can mark a candidate as 'unavailable' in the blue book, surely all the DGs have already spit through and made their first and second choices/contacted the people/etc. Why would you wait until all the 'good ones' are gone and only the 'bottom of the barrel' (ie me, lol) remains.

I contacted three units there as soon as I was pre-selected. Unit C3 was one of the Units and I was really looking forward to hearing from them. Unfortunately no replies so far. May I ask you what kind of background do you have? ))) My current work is very related to migration and asylum, I was actually working at the Ministry of Refugees of my home country in the department of Migration and Asylum and later at the IOM. But I come from non-EU country and I believe I have a very little chance of being selected.

Hey guys, I got an email today from EEAS Head of Central Asian Division saying that they have already made their selection.

But I don't think every division/unit is so fast. Few days ago I got an automatic "I am on holidays until Jan., 12" reply.

This is the email I got back after emailing the general email for EEAS asking if they could say which units are taking trainees:

"EEAS divisions have been already made their choices for the traineeship March 2016 session.
Should there be a resignation we might take contact with you.

Best of luck for the selection procedure.

With my best regards,"

@diam: well, for one unit I actually found it under organisational structure. But usually it works simply like this name.surname@ec.europa.eu or name.surname@eeas.europa.eu. To double check I also googled for the complete address using this logic. Usually it pops up somewhere.

Thank you.

I found the head of the unit I am interested in and i e-mailed him last night. Today i received his reply saying that he selected a trainee for the internship and he wanted to thank me for my interest. Sad
It was expected, but at least i got an official confirmation now. I wonder why it takes so long to send the "Thank you but you were not selected" email to all the candidates that were not selected.

Anyway, good luck to everyone.

Hi guys!
A unit that was interested in my profile told me they booked me. Does it mean I am in or that I am just shortlisted? I had another unit interested in my profile (same dg), should I email the traineeship office to tell which is my preferred one?

Thank you and best of luck!!

Hey Eri, a similar situation happened to me. You should communicate to the other unit interested in you, thanking them and letting them know that you will take the offer from other unit to avoid surprises of any of the units. If you are not sure whether the unit will already receive you and if you have the contact of a person of that unit just try asking them what are the next steps and if they will need any further documentation from you! Cheers!

As far as I understand, the only binding offer for all Commission trainees will be made by the Traineeship office on 22nd January - or around that date.
However it is quite possible that DGT has already finalized picking its trainees. While this is not binding for the Traineeship office, I was told that the formal offer by the Traineeship office is a mere formality, and that they could not recall any case where a trainee selected by a unit was rejected by the Traineeship office.

I am also selected, by DG COMP! Very Happy They sent me some forms, among which a 'conflict of interest' declaration and they sent an email confirming my selection. January 22 takes a loonggg time :O Especially since I need to graduate, quit my job and find an appartment in Brussels. I am just going to go ahead with it, hoping the formal offer by Traineeship Office is indeed a mere formality...

Hey Marije! I was also selected by the DG COMP, Unit C2! Which Unit did you get?

Hi all,

My name is David from Malta. I have just been activated on this forum, so this will be my first post. I have been called by DG DEVCO, Unit B6. During the short interview they told me that they have selected me and at the same time 'forced' me to give them a reply on the same date. I did not like this pressure too much but in the end I still decided to give it a go. Nothing to loose i guess. Is there anyone who is going to work here?
